STILL SIMMERING
Wellington continues to simmer in smoko and 'heat. Yesterday, for tlio greater part of the forenoon, tlio harbour -was like a millpond, and the smoke abovo so obscured the sky that, the surface of the sea presented a dull grey colour. Later a cool southerly sprang up, and! brought some relief to man and beast. Tho official report states that the northern districts hare had a less pleasant spell of weatherunsettled conditions with easterly gales. These aro to continue in the. north) with tho probability of rain. Elsewhero east to south-easterly winds are expected, -with cloudy to overcast EkieS and scattered rain.
