The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Comerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, January 27, from tho High Commissioner for.New Zealand. (Koto: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Meat.—Tho market continues firm for all descriptions of frozen meat. Supplies are small. Prices arc higher for Argentine mutton and lamb. In order to diminish the consumption by order of the Government general opinion is that prices will go higher for New Zealand and Australian mutton and lamb. (Code word for this sentence was mutilated.) New Zealand and Australian mutton, per lb.. BJd.; ewe mutton, 85d.; Argentine mutton, heavyweight, 93d.; light-weight, .10d.; Now 7x;aland and Australian lamb, 10d.; Argentine lamb, heavy-weight, 10 3d.; light-weight, lid.; New Zealand beef, no supplies available. New Zealand boneless beef, 9id.; Argentine beef, hinds 11 9-16 d., fores 9 3-Ed. Butter.—The market has a weaker tone since last report, and prices aro irregular. Cheese.—The markot continues firm. Advance in prices is maintained. The demand is in. excess of the supply. Cheddar, 148s. to 1525.; States Flats, white. 140s. to 1425.; coloured, 140s. to 1425. Hemp—The market is quiet, but firm. Owing to absence of sellers, buyers arc , awaiting further developments. Quotations are nominal. January to March shipment, good-fair New Zealand, per . ton, £60; fair, £58; Government graded fair Manila, £62; coarse, £59. Tho output, of hemp at Manila for tho week ended last Saturday was 20,000 bales. Wheat.—The market is ouiet. but steady: Australian afloat, nominally 82s. -~ Oats.—The market is steady, but- tho 'demand is only moderate. New Zealand, on spot, 61s. Hops.—The market is guiet. with general feeling of uneasiness. Tho Government regulations restricting the beer output aro affecting business. The Board of Trado informed me that they will not grant licenses during the coming season to import hops from British Dominions.
