KAISER'S BIRTHDAY

THE USUAL BOASTFUL FELICITATIONS

Amsterdam, January 28. The German papers are making a feature of the Kaiser's birthday (January 27). They emphasise the assertion that Germany will follow the Kaiser through thick and thin until tho end of the war. Tho Kaiser received addresses from all parts oi tho Empire. Replying to that from the Berlin Academy of Scienco, the Kaiser said ho know that Germany was ready to sacrifice her blood! and treasure to secure a German victory, which was only obtainable by the might of the German eword. The Kaiser pardoned a largo number of convicted sailors, soldiers, and civilians. He spent his birthday at Headquarters on the Eastern front with the Kaiserin, the Emperor Carl of Austria, Herr von Bethmann-Hollweg, Horr Zimmerman and Von Hindonburg. At luncheon Emperor Carl, in toasting the Kaiser, declared that the .success of their allied armies inspired him with confidence regarding future opera- j tions. The Kaiser, in responding, said that Austria and Germany, with their Allies, would fight for a, peace in which tho bonds of friendsliip would bo hardened by blood andl iron, and which would be characterised by tho equal strength of their loyalty in their labours in peace time.—Aus.-N.Z.
