MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. L. G. Eeid, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday. For insobriety James Butcher was fined 10s., with. tho alternative of IS hours' imprisonment. Thomas Patrick Stack, who had fought another man-in Adelaide Koad, thcrehv occasioning a breach of tho peace, was fined ss. The alternative was fixed at 48 hours' imprisonment. A youtth of 19, named John Wm. Fairman, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing from his employer various articles of_a total value of 10s. !)d. He was fined 10s., with the alternative of seven clays' imprisonment, and was ordored to make restitution to his employer. Mahomet James, a coloured - seaman, was remanded till to-day on a charge of being absent from his ship without leavo. Margaret Rothram, a middle-aged woman, whp had used obscene languago in Leeds Street, was fined 40s.
