DAY'S BAY NEEDS

♦ LEGISLATION TO BE PROMOTED. The Finance Committee of the City Council reported to the council last evening tlmt they had received a communication from the Hutt County 1 Counc : l asking that the question of preliminaries ui the matter of water and drainage for Day's Bay should 1 bo settled, with a view to preparing the way for special legislation, and suggesting that each couucil should appoint special committees to settle these matters. The committee reported that a reply had been forwarded intimating that the Finance Committee would confer with the County Council on the matter. The Mayor stated that nothing of a definite character could be done until the necessary legislation was promoted. He thought it was safe to leave the matter in the hands of the Finance Committee to work in with tlio Hutt County Council to get things ready for next session of Parliament.
