Jromlij President of tho Council • the French Republic:— 'I sra very sensible to the message rtvhich Your Excellency has been kind enough, to address to the poopls, Army, • Sand Navy of DYanco, and I desire to ex■:press my sinceresfc thanks' for the sentironents conveyed in your telegram at Hhe heguming of the New Year.' The part which New Zealand has ■ taken, and is taking, alongside tlio •iErencji armies in the common* struggle aa-which the .Allies aro engaged for tho Hrmmpli of right and liberty, is deeply .appreciated by the whole French nation. Whey aVe proud _to be associated with "the great Dominion in the. same steadfast determination to continue the struggle until a victorious peace has been, won."(Signed) URIAND." , Prom His Majtesty-King Peter of Serbia;— ; ; "I am very sensible of your kind 'Wishes, and thank you sincerely. I :'am certain, that the knowledge that ■we aro fighting in tho cause of justice and humanity will aid the Allies in bringing about in tho New Year a decisive victory which will ensure to the world all tho benefits of peace. Prom the Secretary of State for tha Colonies:— Tha King of the Belgians sends tho following reply to New Year greetings: —"The King is deeply touched by the sentiments conveyed ,by you on behalf of the Dominion of New Zealand. His Majesty, while thanking you sincerely begs that Your Excellency will convey to the Government and people of New Zealand an expression of his appreciation of tho sympathy extended by them to the Belgian nation." From tho Secretary of State for the Colonies:— , . - The Government of Russia sends the following reply to New Year greetings: "Tho Emperor has commanded that 'an'expression of his most sincere thanks and of his best wishes for the, prosperity of tho Dominion should be conveyed to the Governor,: as well as to the Government and people of 'New Zealand. His Majesty joins in hoping for a speedy realisation cf the asgirations for whioh the Allies are fighting with so much heroism. "(Signed) .LONG."
