la a recent issue the Melbourne "Ago" stated that as soon as the- holidays were over the Federal Treasury officials would be actively engaged iccarrying out tho final arrangements for the raising of the new Commonwealth war loan of £18,000,000. As waß the case with the previous loan, a special appeal is to bo made to employers throughout tho Commonwealth to help their employees to invest in the loan through a system of extended payments, and letters dealing with this aspect of the matter will be addressed to employers. The details of the arrangements in these cases will bfi much as they were during the last loan, when employees paid 2s. 6d. or ss. for each £10 of loan taken out. The issue is at par, tho rate of interest is 4J- per cent., and subscription lists will close on February 8. the loan taking the form either of inscribed_ stock or of Treasury bonds at the option of the subscriber. Ronds and transfers of inscribed stock will be free of Commonwealth and State stamp duty, and interest free of Commonwealth and State income tax. In addition, investments in the loan aro to be exempt' from tho operations of the wealth levy.
