INTERNED GERMANS IN NEW ZEALAND

■ 0 REPATRIATION ON BASIS OF EXCHANGE. In connection with tho arrangement made by tho Imperial Government for theh c-xchangc of civilian prisoners over forty-five years of age with Germany, tho New Zealand Government has received a direction from tho Colonial Secretary that interned Germans may arrange through the American ConsulGeneral for steamer passage from Now Zealand. The aliens must themselves bear the cost of repatriation, Tho Acting-Prime Minister (Hon. J. Allen) stated yesterday that an arrangement had been made between tho Imperial Government and the German Government for interchange of civilian prisoners over 45 years of age. The Imperial Government has tho right to retain thoso whom it may consider danherons. ..There were, ho added, nono in Now Zealand whom they wanted to' retain for that reason. The German Government would- havo more men returned than would the Imperial Government, but the Gorman Government would havo to feed its repatriated men after they returned, and the repatriated, and semi-starved, English would have a chanco of getting something to eat in their own country. • Probably, as far 83 food was concerned, the repatriated Germans would bo worso ofE in their country than in New Zealand.
