A NARROW ESCAPE. A drowning fatality ivas narrowly averted at Paremata on Anniversary Bay. The three eldest children of Mr. J. W. Davidson, of 115 Dixon Street, Wellington were . enjoying a bathe,, ond were not more than. three yards out, when they got out of their depth. Mr. Davidson was near, and succeeded in rescuing the eldest boy. Mrs. Davidson went to the assistance of the younger boy, but not being able to swim she was soon in difficulties. Mr. Davidson managed fo bring Mrs. Davidson to dry land, and meanwhile Mr. Stirling, of 229 Thorndon Quay, jumped into the water, despite the fact that he was fully clad, and rescued the daughter. A number of young men happened to be in the vicinity at tlie time, and it is stated that they rendered all the assistance in their power in thp way of artificial respire tion. The body of Mr. Robert Pollock, engineer of the coastal steamer Kapui, was found floating in Auckland Harbour on Saturday last. Deceased was a single man. When last .seen he was leaning over a pile on the Albert Wharf, and was talking to himselt. At the inquest a verdiot of l'ouna 1 Browned" was recorded.
