. COST TO THE DOMINION. Tlie military occupation of Samoa cost the' Government of New Zealand nearly £300.000 up.to the end of December, 1916. A statement prepared for the Acting-Priruo Minister (Hon. J. Allen) gives the following details Mobilisation and equipment of troops (advance party and reliefs): — '£ s. d. Camps 3541 17 4 Equipment 8300 12 6 Printing, etc 134 1 4 Postages, telegrams, etc. 1305 19 5 Transports (including hire, fitting out, fuel, stores, etc.): — Three steamers 38,746 12 11 Men returned to New Zealand, freight, etc 46,671 4 6 Pay of troops 143,874 15 9 Provisions arid supplies... 52,495 4 11. Other items: — Administrative expenses (refund asked for) 272 10 9 Mechanical transport 1,449 13 8 Purchase, of horses 727 3 5 Grand total 297.519 17 6
