ON THE WEST FRONT
SUCCESSFUL TRENCH RAIDS (Rec. January 22, 7.15 p.m.) London, January 22. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—We successfully raided trenches south-east of Loos, and destroyed dug-outs, inflicting many casualties. _We entered the enemy lines yesternight north of Neuve Chapolle. Mutual artillery fire is activo. A French communique says:—Wo conducted a successful coup de main towards Seynes. Our artillery caught marching enemy troops south of Mont St. Quentin. There is great reciprocal artillery fire in various sectors. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Ecutcr. FRENCH TAKE PRISONERS Londoni January 21. A' French' communique _ states: —A German attack in the direction of Canny-sur-Mate, north-west of Lassigny, iva-s easily repulsed. We took prisoners.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
