Melbourne, January 20. At tho Victorian Amateur Turf Club's meeting the Anniversary Handicap, one mile and three-quarters, »su,lted as-fol-lows:—Sea Pink, 1; Pretty Bobby, '_•; Polydanus, 3. The Wcstland Racing Club, which recently celebrated its jubilee birthday so successfully, is out with its ono day prograuiiuo for Easter Wednesday (April 11). ■ Seven races will be on the card, of an aggregate value of £700. This is an increase of .£SO on tho total of last year, when there were eight races. Tho principal event of one milo aud a quarter is worth 200 sovs., while there is a highweight of seven furlongs, of 120 sovs. Tho programme also includes two trotting races, and the harness event is worth 100 «>v6. Tho programino is a well-balanced one, and as there is a good circuit of racing dates on tho Coast at Easter time, the Hokitika meeting should bo well patronised as usual. During this season the Westland Racing 'Club has increased its stakes by XIOOO, a very practical way to colebratek'tho jubilee ot tho club. "Quiz" writes:—"Will somebody in authority in tho WeUington Racing Club drop tho clerk of tho course a hint to efface himself when the parades of tho horses nro being made before tho big races? On Saturday when the Cup horses were paraded he placed himself at the head of the line between Merry Roe and the stand, and tho onlookers could seo nothing of tho top-weight. Again,- when tho AVellington Stakes wcro bo- ' ing pa.raded he obscured the view of the crack Desort Gold in the same way. No doubt tho clerk of the course cuts a fine figure in his red. coat, but the. public really -want to see the horses on parade, and not the cleTk of the course. If he rode on <bhe far'side of tlie leading horse or right at the head of tlie ; procession all would be well."
