PI/AYED ON A CONDEMNED BELGIAN. Amsterdam] January, ID. An infamous trick on a Belgian condemned for espionage at Louvain has becu rovealed. Tho man asked to sco a Belgian priest to make his final confession. The German officials' replied that all priests wero equal before God, and he might see a German priest. Tho Belgian accepted, and under tho seal of tho confessional gavo the socalled priest a message to eight friends, whom lie desired should be warned to be careful, as tho German police were on their track. Tho priest solemnly promised to deliver the message and keep the secret inviolate. He igave the condemned man his blessing. ' Within twenty-four hours the eight men were arrested, tried, and shot. Tho priest was a Gorman sergeant-major disguised. His name is known to tho Belgians, and ho now demands liis removal to the Eastern front, fearing that lio will be assassinated.—Aus.N.Z. Cablo Assn.
