Commenting on the German war experts' insinuation that Franco contemplates an offensive from Bolfort, tho "Echo do Paris" suggests that Germany is using tho alloged threat as an excuse for assembling men and material in Upper Alsaco and on the Swiss frontier, and adds: "Tho excuse fails to explain Germany's new strategic railway to Basle, costing throe-quar-ters of a million sterling."—Aus.-N.Z. IS IT A FEINT? (Rec. January 21, 5.5 p.m.) Berne, January 20. Tho concentration of Germans along the Rhino between Basle and Lake Constance- may be connected with an attack on Belfort, or may be part of a feint to induce tho French to strengthen thoir position in tho Vosges whiletho Germans make a sudden dash on 'the weakened front in Lorraine. Major Moraht, in the "Berliner Tageblatt," says: "The French possession of Southern Alsaco provides a sallyport which is a grave menace to tho territory on the left hank of tho Rhine."—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. ALSATIANS EVICTED (Rec. January 21, 5.5 p.m.) Rome, January 20. The "Giornale d'ltalia" states that the Germans have ordered the inhabitants in Alsatian villages on the Swiss frontier to evacuate their homes and withdraw behind the Rhine, carrying with them all foodstuffs. Tho Germans aro concentrating heavily on tho Alsatian borders of Lake Constanco, presumably to uso the troops on tho Trentino front.—Aus.N.Z. Cablo Assn. IMPORTS PROHIBITED (Rec. January 21, 5.5 p.m.) Berne, January 20. Germany has prohibited all imports from Switzerland.
