OUR WATER SUPPLY.
NO CAUSE FOR ANXIETY
Though the public has been warned on more than one occasion during the past few weeks to be careful' in the use of water, there has probably been less real cause for anxiety this summei —dry as it has been—than for some years past. Thanks to a good inflow the Morton dam at Solomon's Knob has been flowing over iight through tho summer, not perhaps very heavily, but sufficient to say that tho dams have been filled to their capacity. A fortnight ago the water in tho dam at Karori had receded a couple of feet below the by-wash. This is not stated as an inducement for the public to become extravagant, l-ut is merely stated to show that our powers of water conservation have been sufficient for the demand so far this summer, and there is little reason to anticipate a shortage. The question of pushing on with the tunnel scliemc to lap tho Orongorongo stream, which was so freely advocated as an urgent work at tho last election of Oity Councillors, will probably be a matter for consideration by the council to bo returned in April next. The survey work has practically been completed, but the actual work has never been commcnced.
