ANTI-CONSCRIPTION PAMPHLETS
PRINTERS IN TROUBLE. Tho "Maoriland Worker" Company pleaded guilty to printing on Julv 18 and August 10 last respectively,' two series of anti-conscription pamphlets, and neglecting to write or print on the copies the names and places of abode of its employers. Mr. P. J. O'Regan, who appeared for the defendant company, stated that the offence had been committed inadvertently, the printer being unaware of tho requirements of the Act, and the manager not knowing that the printer had failed to comply with these requirements. Tho minimum fine of £5 was inflicted in each ease. Tho alternative was fixed at one month's imprisonment.
Yeoman, Garratt, and Barker (Mr. E. C. Levvey) also pleaded guilty to two charges of printing for gain a certain paper (to wit a manifesto in reference to tho repeal of the Military Service Act), .and noglecting to write or print on a copy thereof their own names and places of abode. Defendants had printed pamphlets for the "Maoriland Worker" during pressure of business, and had placed the "workers" imprint upon them. A fine of £5 was imposed on one charge, and the second charge was withdrawn.
