UNIVERSITY SENATE
BURSARY REGULATIONS.

Ihe University Senate carried a motion to amend tho statute relating to University bursaries (Section 1), add- } n S> "providing any such qualification is obtained before the date of matriculation." At'present qualification is obtained at the beginning of University liie. The proposal is that candidates may continue at college and then obtain qualification. The Senate expressed the opinion by resolution that travelling concessions be granted to students attending special schools of University, and. will make a recommendation to the Education and Railway Departments.
A committee was appointed to consider questions raised by Mr. G. M. Thomson in a letter. The Chancellor remarked that in the recommendations of tho board tho study of Latin was not compulsory for a degree in arts, and the candidate was given a large amount of freedom of choico in selecting subjects, nut he must take ono foreign language and one subject other than a language. The board also recommended that'the science degree bo more specialised, and offered suggestions giving the degree more direct connection with industries. In the entrance scholarship examinations the board recommended an alteration of marks in the different subjects, having the effect of making marks for two scienccs equal to those for Latin, English, or mathematics/ The committee recommended theso suggestions to the careful consideration of the Senate.
