MASTERTON NOTES
ilie new stock saleyards in Columba Xioad, Masterton, which have been erected by the various auctioneering firms doing business in the district, were officially openedi on Wednesday. The yards aro in close proximity to a noiv steck bridge recently erected over the Waipoua Kiver. They are capable of accommodating over 20,000 sheep and £000 head of grown cattle. Tho Military Medical' Board sat in Masterton on Thursday. Between 160 and 170 men are to bo examined, and it is expected that tho board will ho occupied until Saturday. Two thousand soldiers from the Feathersten camp a.re to visit Masterton on Fobruary 1, when a monster carnival is to bo hold on tho Sqlway Show Grounds.
A canvass of Masterton for special prizes for the forthcoming allow was mado on Thursday. The response was very liberal.
A group rifle meeting, promoted by tho Defence Department was held on tho rifle range on Thursday. There were about sixty competitors, including a. number of Senior Cadets.
