DAIRY EXPORTS
MINISTERIAL STATEMENT. By Telegraph—Pr«e« Association. ■ Dunedin, January 18. The Hon. W. D. S. Mac Donald, Minister of Agriculture, has written to Mr. G. A. Lamb, secretary _of the South Island Dairy 'Association, stating that the purchase of New Zealand cheese by the Imperial_ Government will solve the difficulty in regard to the dairy companies being unable to secure an advance while all the shipping produce was held, itp in consequence of the lack of shipping space. The Minister states that if the purchase by the Imperial. Government does not remove the difficulty, or if any company is not beneficially affected by such purchase, such company should apply 'to the Licensing Authority (Mr. R, triggs, Wellington), who has been instructed to accept payment of levy on butter-fat by promissory notes, payable on demand, but this applies only where the financial difficulty experienced by a company is owing to lack of shipping facilities. The arrangement now made practically means that, and butter-fat tax will not be demanded till butter itself has been shipped.
