MAN WHO MENDED THE BOILER

Sir Henry Bonbow, lato Chief Inspector of Naval Machinery, who died suddenly at Osborne House, Eastbourne, aged 78, was known, from.a daring deed which ho performed in the Nile Expedition of 1884-5, as "the Man who Mended tho Boiler." The Safia, commanded by Lord Beresford, during a- hot fight had hcr-'boiler disabled by a shot from Fort AVad Habcshi, and Sir Henry, then chief engineer, under heavy fire from the enemy, repaired tho boiler sufficiently for tho vessel to bo taken out of danger. For this feat ho was specially mentioned in dispatches and in Parliament, thanked by Lord AVolsoley, received tho Egyptian Medal and tho" Khedivo's Bronze Star, and was specially promoted.
