JBi Gkencob.l Matters were very unpleasant for training operations at TTenthain yesterday. A nor'-westerly gale blew and raised clouds of dust Very little galloping was done. R. J. Mason sent Bimeter a strong five furlongs, but time-making was not the mission of the son of Malster. It is 6tatcd that he is a. doubtful starter on Saturday unless the tracks get rain. The two-year-olds Tyne and Lovesick were sent half a mil© on the straight four furlongs. They were not asked to do their best, and took 55sec.
Rangitero arrived the afternoon previous, and was given slow work on the tan.
Volo took 53sec. to run half a mile on the tan. He seems to be a horse that would go better in company. Tho Karamu team, consisting of Hyllus, Hymenestra, Hymeona, Mount Joy, Gladful, and Hyginas, were out and did easy pacing on the tan.
Jf. Hobbs worked Sweet Corn, Shrill, and Bayonno on tho tan, but they were not asked to do inuch. The last-named is a.very fine, well-proven filly by Bayardo. She is very babyish yet, but looks like turning out good.
Cheloma, from tho same stable, galloped half a mile on the tan. She had L. Hewitt in the saddle, and got to the end of her journey in 52sec. Considering the gale that ,was blowing, this was a good effort.
T. Quinlivan put in an appearance with the Cup favourite, Bunting, who looks a perfect picture, and the English mare, Llanishen,' They were not asked to do much.
Unless v rain comes in the meantimo, arrangements have been made to have the course propor well watered throughout Friday night.
