WELLINGTON ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The Council of the. Wellington Acclimatisation Society met last evening. Mr. L. 0. Tripp presided. The Department of Internal Affairs niado the usual inquiry as to the. council's recommendations in regard to game, seasons, etc., arid it was decided that the recommendations be the same as those made last year. . It was also decided that tho deer-stalking district be extended to take in Shannon.
A letter was received from the New South Wales Pastoral and Agricultural Societies' Union, in reply to an inquiry ro tho Australian stubble quail. This bird, the letter stated, did no damage, and was regarded as a friend to the farmer. It multiplied quickly and provided good sport. Tho council decided to make the matter of importing the bird one of the subjects to be placed before the Minister when the latter/is interviewed by:a deputation from the society.
A proposal by Mr. Wiflin that the society resume the rearing' of pheasants at Mastorton was the subject of considerable discussion. Finally it was decided to set up a sub-committee to go into the matter, thoroughly and ascertain the probablo cost. ' Tho opinion was generally expressed that a "go-slow" policy would be advisable.
