ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
MOTOR-CYCLE ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, January IT. Thomas Smith, while journeying from Palmerston North to Ashhurst to the butchers' picnic on a motor-6ycle with a side-car this morning, was avoiding some cattle at Whakaronga, and crashed into the Stoney Creek Bridge. Ho now lies unconscious in the Hospital, in a critical condition.
FATAL FALL FROM A BALCONY. Palmerston N,, January 17. Christopher Higgins, aged 45 years', employed at the Central Hotel, fell from a balcony yesterday and died to-<lay. He came from Christchurch two mouths ago. . DROWNING ACCIDENT AT NAPIER. Napier,' January 17. Ernest Bartle, an Englishman, aged 24, a recent arrival in the Dominion, was drowned off tho Marino Parade today. Ho could not swim, and his brother ,_ who is aged 13, was unable to assist him. Tho body was recovered in 45 minutes, and resuscitation was tried for two hours without success.
