ITALIAN CAMPAIGN
A TREMENDOUS EXPLOSION (Rcc. January 17, 5.5 p.m.) London, January-16. An Italian communique says:— Tha enemy exploded a large mine under our position on the southern slopes of Mount Piccololagazuoi,'.- and owing to counter-mining a tremendous explosion resulted, which did not affect' our troops, but the collapse of'the gallery caused the enemy heavy casualties! — Aus.-N.Z. The "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at, Rome says that it is reported that there has been a large concentration of Austrians and Bavarians in the Innsbruck district (in the Tyrol). The men are being trained in mountain, warfare', with tho view of another punitive expedition against tho Pasubio sector (in.tho Trentino). It is stated that tho original Tyrolese Corps'is decimated, weary, and -pessimistic. Frequent sanguinary encounters are reported at Innsbruck between the Bohemians, Germans, and Hungarian Croats.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable. Assn.
