The Rev. J. dimming, M.A., 8.D., of the Khamkllah Presbyterian Church, after obtaining the J3.D. degree from the Melbourne College of Divinity, obtained first-class honours in Old Testament Literature, including Biblical, Hebrew, Aramaic, iandrOld Testament Introduction. ' '

Mr. Herbert Drewitt, son of Mr. l< , . M. Drewitt, of Christclmrcli, who has beoa appointed a probationer sub-flight lieutenant of the Royal Flying Corps, has been instructed to report at headquarters, Wellington, for 'service abroad. He was bora in Christehurch twenty-two years ago, and was educated at: the Waitaki Boys' High School, where he took first prize in agricultural chemistry. Prior to attending Walsh's Aviation School, Auckland, he was learning farming on Sir George Clifford's station at Stonyhurst. For tho past eight months ho has afctended Walsh's Aviation School, and passed his fosts at the beginning of December, 1916, volplaning from 1700 feet. He is, it is understood, tho first Canterbury student at that school who has been appointed to the RoyaL Flying Corps, He leave the Dominion with the next Reinforcements of the Now Zealand Expeditionary Force

Flight-Lieutenant L. Norman Brajn (son of Mr. T. H. Brain, of Onehunga), who las died of wounds, had charge of a machine-gun, on an. aeroplane, which was in combat with a German macKlne. Previous to his enlistment he was engaged in motor work in Onohunga.

Mr. Frederick W. S. BrontoJ for many years on the staff of tho Lands and Survey Department, from which he recently retired, died at his residence, Rona. Bay, on Monday.

Mr. Harold Thomson, solicitor, Inglcwood (son of tho late. , Mr. John Bell Thomson, for somo years Inspector of Police in Wellington), who has gone into tho non-commissioned officers' camp at Trenth'am, was formerly in the Justice Department, and while stationed at New Plymouth earned considerable notoriety for his capture of the individual who was locally known as "the New Plymouth highwayman;"'

The Petone Borough Council on Monday evening passed the following reolution of sympathy with Mrs. Thomson in the loss of her son at "the front (councillors standing) -.—"That this council expresses its sincere sympathy with Mrs. Thomson, widow of the late Rev. A. Thomson, in the loss of her second soldier son, lan, who died as a result of wounds sustained in action, while fighting in France for our British ideals of liberty and justice, and trusts that she may be enabled, with Divine help, to boar this sad bereavement." Corporal Harry Kershaw, of Martinborough, who has died from wounds received in Egypt, was a son of Mr. Jolin Kershaw, of Austin Street, Wei-' lington.

Lieut. Mervyn R-ankin Reed, of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, woundedjduring tho operations on the Egyptian frontier on Tuesday last, is a son of Mr. J. R. Reed, K.C., of Auokland. Lieut. Reed, who is 21 years of age, is an old Kmg's College hoy. He left with one of the early Reinforcements •about eighteen .months ago with, the rank of second lieutenant, and has been in Egypt ever since. Hβ: has held commission rank for the past four years, his first commission being granted when he left King's College. He was afterwards attached as lieutenant to tho Dilworth Institute Cadets under Colonel Plugge. Ho transferred bo the Auckland Mounted Rifles on August 6. 1914, two days alter the outbreak of war.
