PETONE AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING.
Tho first meeting of tho Petone Borough Council for the year 1917 was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. , J. W.M'Ewaii) presiding. There ivero also present: Councillors Forsyth, Gaynor, Cos, Brocklebank', Anderson, M'Dougall, M'Kenzie, Jones, and Trueman.
Mr. J. E. Fitzgerald waited on the council with an ofier of a motor chassis for the council's motor bus, at the sum of £850. After considerable disoussion the council decided to purchaeo the chassis , . • . .
The Borough Engineer's report stated that as' a result of the recent , dry weather the roads had 1 begun to show signs of breaking up, and had been repaired with rotten rock in the worst places, 'fho work of repairing the Woollen Company'e dam had been gone on with during the holidays, and a considerable amount of silt and shingle removed. • There was still a considerable amount of timber, both above and below the dam, and this was being removed, as it was a. continual menace to the pipe drain. Improvement had been noticed in the water pressure. A. letter was received from the secretary of the Working Men's Club, advising that the club had decided to donate two seats for the Marine Parade.—Received.
Tho Health Officer reported! 18 cases of infectious diseases within tho borough. -.Permission was , granted to-.Young and Tripe- to construct a right-of-way to a property at the corner of Jackson and Sydney Streets.
