He was playing in the shailow water, and slipped into a deep * hole. His brother tried to save him, ' but failed, and was nearly pulled un--1 der. f About, 4.30 p.m. on Saturday, May Damond, aged 17 years, a niece of Dr. Poinarc. was dnNvned in Lake Rotoiti. - She was swimming at the mouth of the - Ouau Channel, with three _of Dr. 6 .Poniaro's children, and got into dim- ' culties. and sank before assistance reached her. Her brother was on a r launch noar the spot, and jumped over--1 board, but he himself got into difficulties. The launch was brought quick- , l.v up, but the girl had by this timo ■ disappeared. TTr.
