MR. MASSEY IN EDINBURGH
RECEIVES THE DEGREE OF I/L.I). London, January 12. Edinburgh University conferred a Doctorship of Laws on tho Right Hon. W. F. Massey. Replying, Mr. Massey said, he thought the country had more reason for optimism about the war than when he was in Edinburgh two months ago. Germany had given tho strongest indications of her anxiety for peace, but .however anxious tho Prussian Eagle was to pose as a dove, he trusted the full terms of tho _ Allies' last Note would be firmly insisted on when the Peace Conference opened. He was Assured ,that the forthcoming Dominions' Conference would only be tho forerunner of what would lead to reorganisation of the Empire and a true Imperial Parliament.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
