Social at Featherston. The men in the camps at Featherston woro entertained at a social evening by tho ladies of the Wairarapa at the Annac Club on Thursday, tho hostesses boiiig Mcsdames W. .1. Martin, W. E. Bidwoll, Goo. Pain, and Win. Hume. Tho evening was devoted to progressive euchro and music, and was very enjoyable in every respect. Songs were contributed by Corpl. 0. L. Jones and Pto. W. Strang, pianoforte solos by Sergeant Kano and Trumpeter Vincent, and recitations by Band-Sergt. Webb. Tho accompaniments wero played by Mrs. Parnell, who also rendered a number of solos during the progress of tho card games. When tho euchre scores wero compiled, it was found that thero wero many good totals, but tho first prizes eventually Went to tho following: Men —First, Saddler C. Carlton, A.S.C. ; second, Pte. .T. Payne. Ladies—First, Miss L. Hodder; second, Mrs. W. Fugo.

Y.W.C.A. At tho Y.W.C.A. Conference in Cliristchurch, Dr. Wood, Bishop of Melanesia, who is now hi Wellington, delivered an inspiring address to young women. Miss M'Lean, M.A., of Wellington, presided. His Lordship, in opening, remarked that ho had just coino from a "red hot ecntrc"—the Students' Conference at Rangiora. He hoped that tho Young Women's Christian Association, Conforcnco would have equally "red hot" rosults, and that each delegate would go juray having acquired something complete and final in tho direction of serving Christ. Tho Bishop in his address dealt with the interpretation of Christianity, and said that the thought ho wanted to leavo in the minds of li'is hearers was how much they could do in common, and that it was worth whilo to pray for cooperation. Tho conference will close tomorrow.
