• POLICE CASES. M. l>. Gr. Reid, S.M., presided o\-cr a- sifctiiig of tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. For insobriety, William Conrick was fined 10s. Hβ was also convicted •_ of using obscene language in Quinn Street, and fined £3, with tho alternative of 21 days' imprisonment. A middle-aged man named Edmond Gilligan was committed to tho Supreme Court for trial on two charges of indecent assault upon girls. Ho was allowed bail, and a • further charge' against him of common assault was'adjourned sino die. Tho'caso in -which Aniiio Eiizabetli Reid, a married woman, was charged ■with false pretences was further ad- , journed till to-day. Charles Henderson appeared on remand on a charge of causing grievous bodily harm to William Fitzgerald, ;t polico consta-blu, on the cvoning of t)eccmbor 19. Mr. P. W. Jackson, who appeared for tlio accused, applied for a further remand till Monday afternoon, and this was granted. As Henderson had boon in custody since the date of his alleged offence, tho police offered no objection to a reduction, of the bail to £25. CIVIL CASES. Mr. W. Ci. Jliddcll, S.M., presided over thn civil business at the- Magistrato's Court yesterday. Judgment for plaintiffs by default of defendants was entered in tho following cases: —Commercial Agency, Ltd., v. H. Wright, for £19 18s. 5d., and costs £1 10s. 6d.'; same and Thomas Horton, Ltd., v. Thomas Grant, for £6 10s., and costs £1 3s. 6d.; Wright, Dixon, and Witt v. Roxburgh Bros., for £22 os. 5d., and costs £2 45.; Joseph Tipling v. Charles Cooper, for £7 175.. and costs 255. 6d.; Aleock and Co., Ltd... v. 6. Wilkinson, for £11 2s. lid., and costs £l"10s. 6d.;. T. and W. Ybiing V. 'J , . Fairley, for £14 175., and costs £1 10s. 6d.; Vacuum Oil Co. Proprietary, Ltd., v. F. H. Flower, for £38 15s. Gd., and costs £3 195.; William J. Haines v. Alfred Brickell, for £2 10s. ,tid., and costs 10s.; samo v. Daniel Chapman, for £5 Bs. 6d., and costs £1 Js. 6d.; samo v. Walter Austin, for £2 10s., and costs' 10s:; Commercial Agency, Ltd., and F. Cooper, Ltd., v. H. Pilcher, for £1 ss. 103., and costs 75.; E. J. v. Edgar.Shaw, for £3 Is., and costs 10s. Alcook and Co., manufacturers, claimed from J. H. Ratcliffo, Otopua, - tho amount of £24 Os. 2d., baTancb dus on a billiard table purchased from the plaintiffs on bailment. Judgment was entered for the plaintiffs for tho full amount, with costs.
