Mrs. Richard Street,- an old Taranaki settler, died at Tarurutangi on Sunday, at tho age of 80 years. The engagement is announced of Miss Rita Cusaek, eldest daughter of Mrs. Mitchell, of Palmerston North, to Lieutenant H. G. M'Niven, of tho Twenty-second Reinforcements, son of Mr. and Mrs.'G. M'Niven, of Hawcra. Members of the Victoria League will no doubt remember Miss Meriel Talbot, who toured Australia, Now Zealand, Canada, and South Africa on behalf of the league, and who succeeded in establishing a great number of new in various parts of the" Bm- ■ pire. The Earl of Crawford and Balcarres, President of tho Board, has appointed Miss Talbot to-the important post of chief woman inspector, and sho will coutinus her work of organising women's work in agriculture, being obliged to resign her position on the Victoria League, which sho has held for fifteen years.
