Wo effectively bombarded enemy trenches eastward of Lesboeufs, both sides of tho Ancre, and eastward of Neuve Cbapelle. The Germans heavily shelled Ypres. A French communique- states there was a lively artillery duel on the right of the Mouse at the foot of Cote de Mouse—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Rcutor. ENEMY BATTERIES SHELLED The High Commissioner reports:— London, January 8, 11.5 p/m. British official, report.—Artillery work is active on both sides in several places along tho lino of tho front and in tho support trenches in back areas. In particular, wo effectively bombarded east of Lesboeufs, on both sides of the Ancre and eastwards of Neuve Chapelle. The enemy heavily shelled Ypres. Yesterday a. number of enemy batteries were effectively engaged by our artillery, with the co-operation of aeroplanes. LADS BEING SENT T8 THE FRONT Amsterdam, January 8. 'A German traveller states tihat all cigbieen-yeaiM)ld boya who were called up in November have been drafted to the Western front. _ He was informed that the Germans will attempt a great offensive early in the spring. Even younger boys are employed in munition factories, and are working at the maximum intensity. They are told they must give the Western aimies more ammunition' than the English hare.—Aus.-N.Z.
