MAETERLINCK'S PUBLIC PROTEST Paris, January 8. As a public protest against tho Belgian deportations, M. Maurice Maeterlinck, the Belgian writer, rebuked neutrals for their apathy, and declared in passionate apostrophe:—"You, who bear tho name of neutrals, aro alone able to hinder and punish these orimes. We are powerless. Between these crinyinals and humanity is a gulf that cannot be crossed till after long years of penitence, suffering, and humiliation." —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
