A -VAItIETY OF CHARGES.
. Mr. S. E. JrCarthy, , S.M., presided over a sitting of llie Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. For insobriety, Herbert Roberts was fined 2Us., with tho alternative of seven days' imprisonment.
Madeline Maud Page, for stealing articles of clothing, to the value of £5, the property of Winiiie Kavahagh, ivas convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. As liquor was stated to bo the probable cause of her lapse, sho wa-s declared a prohibited person, by consent. Frank Robert Wilson, a- -returned soldier, who pleaded guilty to using obscene language, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour.
Martin Ooogan, an old man who had absconded from the Ohiro Home, was convicted of possessing insufficient lawful means of support, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon; this-on tho understanding that he returned to the home and made no further attempt to leave it.
George Williams, deemed by. the polioo to bo a rogue and a vagabond; pleaded guilty te a. charge of haying insufficient lawful means of support. He had a largo number of previous convictions against him. For disobeying maintenance orders, Thomas Francis Bustin and Harold Verigge Taylor were each sentenced to three months' imprisonment with bard labour, failing payment of arrears. A sentence of one. year's imprisonment with-hard-labour was imposed, Patrick Oatos, whose behaviour in the dock appeared rather extraordinary, was remanded for a week on charges of using cbsecino language, resisting the jwlice, and failing to apply for enrolment under tho Military Service Act.
Nellie'.Parris, being..still. : unable to appear, a charge against, her of stealing £5 was further adjourned for a week.
Jeremiah M'Mahon, Henry Ernest Gfiorjio Solway, , and James Steven O'Neil appeared on remnlld on charges of causing bodily harm to one Howard Webby; Against O'Noil there, -were also charges of assaulting Constable Cox and Adriaiius Dirge. The accused wore further remanded till to.-dav. on bail. : ""
