HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT.
The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commorco has received the following cablegram, dated London, January 6, 1917, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot) :—
Meat.—All descriptions of frozen meat continue In good demand, owing to decreasing supplies ol Home-killed mutton and beef, together with the small supplies of New Zealand mutton and lamb available for the general public. New Zealand mutton, per lb., 82-d.; ewe mu>. ton, Bd.; Argentine mutton, Bgd. to M.f N.Z. lamb, 9Jd.; Australian lamb, 9Jd.; Argentine lamb, 92d. Mew Zealand beef: There are no supplies available. Argentine chilled beef, hinds IOJd., fores 9d. O.i.f. sales have been made at the following prices :—American frozen 01 beef, hinds 9d., fores 7d.
Butter.—The market has a downward tendency. Prices are easier. Danish, per cwt., 216 a. to 2205.; Dutch, 2065. to 2105.; Australian, salted 2025. to 2085., unsalted 2065. to 2105.; New Zealand (the market is a shade weaker), 2065. to 2105., unsalted 210s. to 2145.; Argentine, salted 2Oos. to 2025., unsalted 2045. to 2085.; American creamery, 1925. to 1945.
Oheose.—The market continues firm. Canadian, white, per cwt., 1335. to 1365., coloured 1365. to 1385.; English Cheddar, 140s. to l<Ms.; States Flats, 13te. to 13bs. New Zealand: There is no business doing. Estimated Canadian and States cheese stocks, London, Liverpool, and ■ Bristol, 172,000 boxes, against 191,000 at the same timo last year. Estimated New Zealand checso stocks, London and Bristol, 1000 crates, against 14,00(1 at the same timo last year. Hemp.—New Zealand: It is reported that little or none is being offered. The market is firm owing to reduced supjiTtcs: Quotations aro nominal. Good-fair New Zealand hemp, por ton, £60; fair,. £58; January-March shipment, good-fair New Zealand, £59; fair, £57; Government graded fair Manila, £60; coarse, £57 10s. The output of hemp at Manila for the Tvcek ended last Saturday was 20,000 bales. Wheat.—There is a firm market, ivith a good demand. Australian, ailoHt, 835.; New Zealand, 60s. Oats.—The market remains firm. New Zealand, 60s. WHEAT AND FLOUR. London, January 7. Tho wheat and Dour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,255,000 quarters; for tho Continent 2,790,000; Atlantic shipments, 461,000; Pacific, nil. The total shipments to Kuropo during the week amounted to 935,000 quarters, including 19,000 from India, 212,000 from Argentina, and 200,000 (estimated) from Australasia.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
