Tho strength '. of the draft, which will be mobilised ■' -early next month, has been fixed at •2148 men, and tbo volunteers number ■ -■■ 936, leaving a deficiency of 1212 t-o bo covered by compulsory enlistment. The number of names toi be drawn from tho rollof the-First Division is about ~- 3600, since the Defence authorities can- - not count ■upon getting into camp more * : than one-third of the 1 balloted men. Medical rejections, exemptions, etc., wilt account for tho remaining twothirds. The proceedings began yesterday morning, ami tho drawing is likely to be completed to-day. The cards representing the fie-" servists of the First Division are contained now in 173 boxes, bo that, the drawing of each numbered marble from tlie barrel produces 173 cards. About 2000 names were drawn yesterday.
