Messrs. Murray, Koberts aim l;o. report; —-We ollercd a medium catalogue of luces, cult'skins, and tallow to a small attenuate of buyers. iNo sneepskins were oil'ered,- as tnese liavo been commaudered by tne Imperial Government. Ox bides sold at id. to 3d. below last sale s prices, cows being Id. and caifsKins id. to IU. below the rates then ruling. This fall in prices is attributed to tne tact that the Government also intend couimuimeering this produce. Tallow sold at prices on a par with those of last sale.
The i\*ew Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—iNo siieepsums were offered at to-day's sale, as the Government recently announced its intention to commandeer all sheepskins. Hides also are about to be taken over by the Government, and as a consequence, prices were considerably lower at to-day's sale—good ox aud cow being 3d. to lid. per pound lower. Tallow was in fair request at about last sale's prices.
Messrs. Abraham and Williams report:— Our catalogue, yesterday comprised hidcts and tallow only, as we were requested by the- Government to hold all skins over, peudiug further action by the Imperial Government. The prices for ox hides ■were easier by ?d. per lb., and cow hides •were Quito Id. to one penny below last sum's prices. Calfskins wero also down, showing a drop of lid. on last quotations. Messrs. Levin aud Co. report as follows: —Sheepskins: As the Government asked that all skin sales should be stopped, preparatory to tho commandeering of the skins, we held no sale of dry skins. Damp and green skins have been disposed of to avoid deterioration whilst awaiting tho launching of tho scheme. Hides: As the Government arc apparently going to commandeer hides also, the market was somewhat upset, an<f prices ruled fully Id. down.
The Wairarapa Farmers' Co-operative Association report on the sale also very briefly.
The following range of prices was obtained—Hides: Ox, heavy, 601b. up, llgd. to 12f,d.; ox, medium, £01b. to 591b., lljd. to 112 d.; ox, light, 491b. and under, 10»d. to cow, heavy, 651b. and over, lOJd.'lo 10(!d.; cow, medium, 421b. to/541b., 10»d. to 10gd.; cow, light, under 421b., IOJd. to 103 d.; cut, slippy, and inferior, 7d. to 93d.; bull, stag, 7d. to Bd. : yearlings (161b. to 241b.). 83d. to 9Jd.; calf, superior (up to 161b.), lZjd.. to 13d.; calf, medium to good do., 12d. to 121 d.; calf, damaged, 7d. to Mkl. Tallow: In casks, 325., 345, 6d.; in tins, etc., 17s. 9d., 295. Sundries: Opossum skins 10d., tails Is.
