ON THE WEST FRONT
BRITISH SHARE OF STRUGGLE London, January '4. A correspondent at Headquarters emphasises that it is an illusion to suppose that becauso the British hold a fourth of the West front their share of the struggle may bo expressed in that ratio. The question is ono of density, not of mileage; in other words, it is a question of the number of enemy divisions hold in a particular area by the concentration in - that area. .It is quite conceivable;-that the war will be won on a forty-mile front.— Aus.-N.Z. Cablo-Assn. NIGHTMRAJDiNC ANZACS VERY ACTIVE . .London, January" 4. Mr. Philip Gibbs, tho war correspondent, writes: "The Australians, and New Zealanders have recently been active in night raiding, adventures that test the nerves more than most incidents in trench warfare. It is no joke to crawl out on a dark night holding your heart in your mouth, while bright glares go Overhead; then to rush trenches where tho Germans may be waiting with bombs and axes._ At-other times the Germans scuttle into their dug-outs, where we bomb them.- The Germans are also.active, but we make ourselves more disagreeable than they." —Aus.-N.Z.
