DENIAL OF RECENT RUMOURS. London, January 4. The "Belfast Evening Telegraph'' denies rumours that Sir Edward Carson is negotiating for a settlement of tho Irish question. The Ulster Unionist Council is not aware of any pourparlers. The Ulster Unionists are not prepared to let their position_ in tho Empire be decided by a Dominion "War" Conference. Lord Wimborne's (Lord Lieutenant of Ireland) office precludes his interference. Lord Winiborne is not responsible for tho report that ho is submitting a scheme to tho Conference. —Aus.N.Z.
