.HOARD OF COMMISSIONERS. A Board ol' J'our commissioners has been appointed to control the railways .of New South Wales. The appointments, which aro for soven years from December 20, havo been made in accordance with tho provisions of the Amending Railways Acts, which recently received the Royal assent. Tho Board comprises Mr. James Fraser, chief commissioner; Mr. E. Milne, deputy chicf commissioner; Mr. J. H. Carni; M.L.A., assistant commissioner ; and Mr. H. Foxj assistant commissioner. The salaries of the commissioners aro proscribed by tho provisions of a special Act of Parliament passed last session. T'hoy are:—Chief commissioner, £3000 per annum; deputy chief commissioner, £2000 per annum: two assistant commissioners, at £1500 per annum each. A provision has been made for their automatic increase on tho conclusion of i the war. The chief commissioner's salary will remain at £3000 per annum. That of tho deputy chief commissioner will bo increased to £2600 ner annum, while the two assistant commissioners will receive £1800 per annum each after tho declaration of i peace. * Mr. Fraser holds tho distinction of i being tho first Australian-born en- i gineer to hare charge of tho railways ; of Now South Wales.
