Mr 1 R. Wood, of the Gisborne district brother of Mrs. Ernest Hadfield, is oil a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. W. Radcliffe, Mayor of Lyfctelton. was taken ill at Dunedm a few days ago, and will not he well enough to return to his home for at least , a month. Mr. John O'Donnell, who served m the Crimean War. taking part m the battles of Alma, Inkerman, Balaclava, and Sebastopol, has died at New Plymonth at the age of 87. During that war Mr. O'Donnell secured a medal lor being the best rifle shot among the British troops. He also served in India, after which he returned to England. He came to New Zealand about 1870, and later settled in Taranaki.

Mr. H. W. Frost has returned from a holiday in Auckland and Rotorua.
