SIR DOUGLAS HAIG IN PARIS Paris, January 2. Sir Douglas Haig is, visiting Paris, where he has conferred with Generals Lyautey (French Minister for War) and Nivelle (French Commander-in-Chief). In the "Echo de Paris," Marcel Hutin says the English and French are preparing for great decisive efforts. —"The Times." BRITISH ATTACKS AT YPRES London, January 2. 'A! wireless German official message states: —Wβ repulsed English handgrenade attacks at Ypres. We raided trenches in tho Argonne and on the Meuse. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reu-ter. ENEMY PATROLS DRIVEN BACK BY THE BRITISH (Rec. January 3, 8.30 p.m.) London, January 3. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—We drove back patrols who were attempting to enter our trenches at Vermelles and northward of Ypres. A French communique states:—There was a lively artillery duel between Hardaumont and intermittent firing elsewhere.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reutor.
