To .Sail.—Wakatu, for Kaikoura,. AKITA MARU LEAVES JAPAN. Advice has been received by Messrs. Burns. Philp -and Co. that the Akita M*ru loft Moji (Japan) last Sunday, for Wellington direct. This is some weeks later than was first exipected. and she will not arrive here now until January 20 or thereabouts. She leaves here two or three days later for Sydney on her way back to Japan, after which it is probable that she will initiate the new Japanese-New Zealand sorvico, when she will come to Wellington via Auckland. No particulars are yet availa.blo in connection with this matter, although some may be expected in about two weeks' time. ?.'o details of the cargo coming by tho Akita. Mam were received yosterday.
AXTIOPB AT DTOEDIX. The barque Antiopo, which went, ashore in Bluff Harbour whilst being tendered up. to the wharf during a squall some months ago, with a cargo of timber and scrap iron on hoard, and which was refloated on Wednesday morning of last -week, arrived at Port Chalmors at 7.45 p.m. on Tuesday, in tow of the Dunedin. which •was brought from the port especially to do the necessary pum.ning. says the Duncdin ••Star." The once trim barquo presents nn almost sorry appearance an she now lies alongside tho export sheds. The break in the forecastle is in the nature of a bulge in the plates, measuring about 6ft. by 3ft. This was caused by the vessel resting on the pinnacle or the rock on which she grounded. Considerable difficulty was experienced in effecting tho necessary repairs, which would be sufficiently substantial to stand tho voyage to Port Chalmers. When this had been repaired with cement, etc., it was discovered that the vessel was leaking att. This defect was remedied, and the vessel got roady for her 24-hours' voyage. So efficient were the Tepnirs that the inflow of water was reduced to a minimum, and hand pumps wero found to be ample to cope with tho water. Provision was, however, mado for connecting tho lljn. cpnmp on the Antiopc with tho hoilcr on tho tug. should these precautions have been found necessary,

Owinff to two firemen deserting, the Wcstralia was unable to sail until midnight. [The Wcstralia was to have sailed from Sydney on Thursday afternoon, in which case sho would have arrived at Auckland on Monday. She is now duo there early on Tuesday, but will not come down the coast. Instead, she will, on arrival at Auckland, sail again for Sydney. MONOWAI DETAILED. She has 121 saloon and 129 stccr--020 passengers, and 400 tons of cargo for Wellington. She leaves here for Lyttclton on Tuesday evening as usual. 1>01!T HACKING DUE MONDAY. The C. and 1). Lino advise that the Port H;ic.klng, which arrived at Auckland from New York early in the week, is to leavo the northern port to-day for Wellington, and is duo hero on Monday. She afterwards goes south. I'ALOONA TO CALL AT HOBART. The Union Company adviso that the I'aloona. which 7s timed to leave- hero nest Saturday for Melbourne, will mako a coll at Hobart en route. This will be tho -first occasion for many months that the I'aloona will have visited llobart.
THE KIA ORA. The Kia Ora, which arrived at Auckland from London on Tuesday, experienced roußh weather on the trip to New Zealand, which delayed her somewhat. Captain A. O. RjCed is In command, and has with him tho following officers -.—First, H. Thurston; second, V. Keuworth; third, G. Lindsell; chief engineer, F. Harvey; second engineer, T. Webb; third engineer. S. Wicker; fourth,engineer. It. Raine; chief refrigerating engineer, D. M'Dougai. ESTHEK- BTJHNE AT SAMOA. The "Samoan Times," dated December 9. says:—"The three-masted schooner Esther Buhne, in ballast, arrived v at this port from Napier on the morning of Tuesday. December 5, after a. passage of 21 days. Tho master reports a fast and' favourable run until tho vessel was within 300 miles of Samoa, and he fully expected to make this port within 14 days from New Zealand. At this stage she met with 6lrong north-west winds, and took ton days to beat up tho 300 miles to Apia. The Bather Buhno is to load copra for San Francisco." RARANGA FOR NEW ZEALAND. After visiting Australian ports, tho new Sha-w, Savill. and Albion liner Raraugfl. is to come to New Zealand. TSjt. will not got here for some weeks yet. Sho is ono of the three liners built for the S. K. and A. Line, and should be ouo of the most up-to-date cargo vessels Sho was completed this year, the builders being Armstrong. Whitworth. and Co.. Ltd.. of Newcastle. Sbc is a vessel of 7975 tons gross anrl 50S0 tons net weight, and fitted with elcctrio light and refrigerating machinery. Her principal dimensions are:—Length- 447 feet; breadth, 62 feet; and depth. 30 feet.
KAIAPOI LEAVES AUSTRALIA. The Union Company -advise that the Kaiapoi left Bunhury on Dccembor 22 for Lyttelton. Sho puts out a ipart load of timber, and then conies on to Wellington, being due about the middle of January. MESS-TABLE' GOSSIP. Mr. W. J. Novtllo has joined the Rosa; mond as purser. Mr. A. Barker, assistant -purser of the Mnnukn. has come ashore. Mr. W. Oyami-s. second engineer of tho Manuka, has come ashore, and has been replaced by Mr. W. Aimers. The Tako-puna. which sails lor Picton and Nelson to-day, will leave hero at 3 o'clock' this afternoon, instead of. 12.45 p.m. as usual. ' Tho'Union Company advise ..that the To Anau, which was to.have left' Napier last night, will not come to Wellington at all this trip, nut will go to Dunedin direct. The Defender, according to advice received from Messrs. Bannatyne and Co., left Hokitika at midnight on Thursday for Wellington. Sho is duo to-night or on Sunday, and will sail for Karamea, on Wednesday next. Advice received in Wellington ■ yesterday' stated that tho Ngatoro was.leaving Lyttelton at noon yesterday for Greymouth. At Greymouth she loads conl, but whether for Wellington or Auckland is not yet definite The Kini, which lelt Wellingjon last evening for New Plymouth, will proceed to Westport from that port. The Tara-wera- is to leave Auckland at. noon to-day for Wellington- direct, and is due here on Monday.. She sails on Tuesday for Lyttelton and Dunedin.
