ENEMY CAPTURES RIMNICU SARAT Tho High Commissioner reports:— London, December 28, 4.50 p.m. German Official: To-day General Falkenhayrii in a battle near Rimnicu Sarat, was completely victorious over the Russians sent for • the defence of Rumania. The total number of Russians taken prisoner near Rimnicu was 10,220. London, December 28. A Berlin official message states that Rimnicu Sarat, in Wallachia, has been captured.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.-Reu-ter. ' ENEMY ATTACKS . GENERALLY REPULSED Petrograd, December 28. A Russian communique reports that the Germans delivered attacks on nearly tho whole of the Rumanian front. A Petrograd. communique says :— Scouts crossed Naraiovka (near Halicz, in Galicia), and drove off the enemy's patrol guard. Tho enemy pressed back our detachiments, and occupied a series of heights oh the Moldavian frontier. Tho enemy's attempt to cross the Dniester was checked. VIOLENT FIGHTING IN WOODED CARPATHIANS (Rec. December 29, 5.50 p.m.) London, December 28. A Berlin communique records violent fighting in the,wooded Carpathians, but does not state the result, , and adds: "Strong Russian counter-attacks to regain ground at Rimnicu Sarat failed.
