THE NEW WOOL CLIP
ARMY COUNCIL'S ORDERS. 1 London, December 28. Tho Army Council orders that no wool of tiro 1916-17 clip consigned to the United Kingdom from Australia and New Zealand on growers' account shall bo sold except to the Director of Army Contracts. Persons holding or receiving stocks aro required immediately on arrival of the wool to furnish particulars thereof to the authorities, and sell the wool as directed.—Aus.-N.Z., Cablo Assn.-Reuter.
WAR OFFICE REPLY. THE TIMES WERE ABNORMAL. (Rcc. December 29, 8.50 p.m.) London, December 29. Mr. 11. W. Forstcr, Financial Secretary' to the War Office, replying, to a Rochdale wool deputation, said it was necessary to carefully organise the wool transport owing to the shortage of tonnage. It might be necessary to land much wool at ports outside of London. It is expected that wool required for military purposes will .be sent direct to the users. Regarding the balanco the War Office is anxious to encourage export, and will give it priority over tho home trade. Mr.'Forstcr agreed that it was desirable to use the normal trade methods as far as possible, but tho times were abnormal.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable As'sn,
