MUNITIONS SECRETARY
AN APPOINTMENT. i London, December 27. Sir Matthew Nathan, late Under-Sec-retary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, has been appointed • Permanent Secretary to the Ministry for Munitions. —Reuter. [Before taking up civil work, Sir Matthew Nathan, who was a lieuten-ant-colonel in the army, saw active service, taking part in the Nile and Sushai expeditions. From 1907 to 1909 he was Governor of Natal, prior to whioh 'he was Governor 'in turn' of Sierra Leone, the Gold Coast, and Hong-Kong. He was Secretary to the Post Office from 1909 to 1911, and Chairman of the Board of Inland 1 Revenue and member of the Pacific Cable Board from 1911 to 1914. In the lastnamed year lie was appointed UnderSecretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland, .resigning this y;enr as an outcomo of the rising in Dublin.!
