A lire occurred .early this morning in Snieeton's, Ltd., shop, in Queon Street, doing damage to Iko extent of several thousand pounds-A large stock of groceries was more or less damaged by the fire, which originated in an. electric lift .well, and burned through four floors, a portion of each of which collapsed. Although the lire was confined to one section of tho building, the whole stock, which wa's valued at £28,000, was more nr less* damaged by water or smoke. The insurances are not. known, but it is understood that the stock is covered by policies in ten companies; - „ HOUSE DESTROYED AT KAI- • WARRA. . A house, owned and occupied by Mr. Patrick Cavanagh, dairyman, at Kaiwarra, was yesterday morning totally destroyed by fire, Mr. Cavanagh anil his family having a narrow escape from burning. Nothing was saved.from tho premises.. The property is believed to have been insured,, but no details wero available last night. OUTBREAK IN EDWARD STREET. At 11.47 p.m. on Saturday the firo brigade received' a call to a three-story brick building in Edward Street, owned by Mr. W. B. Reeves, of 102 Willis Street. The fire, which apparently originated in the top story, occupied by Mr. John Clark Uric, waterproof clothing manufacturer, already liad a good hold when tho brigade arrived. Flames wei;o coming through the roof, and an.hour elapsed before the brigade could bring the fire under control. Tho insurance, on tho contents ,of tho top story, whicli was gutted, was not ascertainable yesterday. The middle floor, occupied by Mr. Israel Solomon, clothing manufacturer, was severely damaged. Tho contents wero insured for £300 and £250 in the- Northern and Guardian Offices respectively. - "The ground floor suffer,"! only slightly from fire, the greatest damage there being done by water. . It was occupied by Aubrey. Gaulter and Co., and the contents were insured in the Australian Alliance Office for an amount not, known yesterday. The building was insured for £1650 with the Alliance . Assurance Co.
