The Wairarapa, Farmers' Co-operative Association, Ltd., I'aliiatua, report on their supplementary cattle fair, held on December 21. as follows:—We yarded 1660 head o£ cattle, and sold 1315. The quality of the cattle taken og the whole was a long way above the average seen at recent cattle fairs in tho North. Island. The four-year-old bullocks and female cattle showed excellent quality, and were very favourably commented on by outside buyers, who were present from • the wanganiri, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa. and Manawatu' districts. Practically all the well-bred female cattle were eagerly snapped up by local graziers. The grown bullocks went to the Manawatu and Wairarapa, with tho exception of one lino of 10 good-conditioned iour-year-old steers, which, wore bought to fatten by a wellknown local farmer. With the reports going about of the shortage of water in the Wairarapa and tho continuous dry weather, the prospects for a good sale wero not very bright at tho outset, but vendors -wero there to do business, and though, the first pen or two met with rather a dragging salo, buyers soon warmed up to their work, and jirioes. though not quite so good as at our initial fair in November, must bo considered highly satisfactory, when we compare those ruling in other parts of tho Dominion. Tho situation of' Pahiatua seems favourable for cattle fairs, as wo aro within easy distanco of tho Wairarapa,
Kanawatii, and Hawke's Day, and as tin land around these districts constitute some of the finest land in the Dominion vendors are now boginninK to realise th< importance of offoring their etoolc at oui fairs.
