FLOODS IN MIDSUMMER, By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, December 22. The torrential rainfall which was responsible for the slip on the Main Trunk line ceased to-day, the total registered during the past two days being 6.22 inches. - . ' Minor damage v has been.done in the city arid suburbs,; while in the country low-lying areas have been flooded. The flood waters of the Waimuku district nearly proved a death-trap for three men; C.' Miller, A. Humphreys, and J. Fletcher, of Auckland. ..Last evening, when returning to tho city in a spfing' ca'rt, after successfully nego-" tiating' several flooded portions of the' road, they tirove into a_ dip in tho road which was covered with water to a depth of 1 12 ft. The horses wero drowned, and the men wero swept out of tho cart into the water, where, after some struggling, they succeeded in grasping the tops of some teatree. and in that position thoy were rescued, as a result of their cries for help, by two residents of tho district.
