The Suva (Fiji) correspondent of tho "New Zealand Herald" reports that about twenty of tho male Indian indentured labourers on an estate in. tho island of Taviuni recently took "French leave" and marched iii a body to tho wireless station, sis or seven miles distant. They requested the operator in charge to communicate with the "Protector of Indians" at Labaaa," stating that unless ho came at once to the island'to redress their grievances they would kill their sirdar (overseer). The operator ostensibly agreed, but communicated instead with the District Commissioner at Waiyevo, with the result that a police officer came and ar- ' rested the men. Five of the ringleaders were sentenced to terms of imprisonment 'for intimidation. The Inspector of Immigrants has meantime arrived at tho island and is investigating the men's grievances.'
